Detroit Lake State Park is located on the north side of Detroit Lake and is about five minutes west of the town of Detroit. The lake is a popular destination for boaters and fishermen and can get very busy during the warm summer months. The campground itself is large and sits between the lake and highway 22. As a result, the campsites are either excellent or borderline terrible when it comes to location within the campground. Depending when which site you get you will either be right on edge of the busy highway or nestled up next to a beautiful and quiet lake.
The campground is nice with two huge loops and a large dock with about 80 slips for boats. There are plenty of places for swimming and water activities as well as flushing toilets, running water and multiple camp hosts. The campground tends to attract families and large groups so if you are looking for a quiet retreat you may want to look elsewhere.

This is a large campground that has some great sites right on the lake and good water access for boating and swimming. The downside is how close some of the campsites are to the highway. If you are unlucky enough to get one of those sites you are in for a scary night. In general thought this is a good campground and my family loves coming here for summer boating.
