Steelhead Falls Attraction Description

Steelhead Falls is a 20-foot waterfall located on the Deschutes River in Central Oregon. The falls are situated in the Deschutes Canyon-Steelhead Falls Wilderness Study Area, which is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The hike to Steelhead Falls is relatively easy, making it a popular destination for families and hikers of all levels. The trail is just over 1 mile round-trip and gains about 200 feet in elevation. The hike starts out at the top of the canyon and mildly descends towards the Deschutes River hugging the canyon walls.  There are a few spots of cliff exposure however the trail is so wide that there is little concern of danger.

The falls are located at the end of the trail, and they are well worth the minimal effort to get there. The water cascades down a series of colorful cliffs, creating a stunning sight. In the spring, the wildflowers that bloom in the canyon add to the beauty of the falls.  This is also a very popular area for local daredevils as the falls and deep pool below provide the perfect backdrop for cliff divers.

In addition to the falls, there are a number of other things to see and do in the area. The Deschutes River is a popular spot for fishing, and there are also a number of hiking trails in the area. The Steelhead Falls Trail is a great place to see wildlife, such as golden eagles, hawks, and deer.
