Sheep Bridge Campground Description

Sheep Bridge Campground is located in Central Oregon near the meeting place of the Deschutes River and Wickiup Reservoir towards the south side of the Cascade Lakes Highway.  Sheep Bridge Campground has 23 campsites, a primitive dirt boat launch, three large group sites, vault toilets and potable water.

Sheep Bridge Campground has a dirt road that runs through it and many of the campsites are set back away from the water in a less shaded area that at times can get very hot in the summer months.  While the sites are very large and for the most part spread out well the lack of small vegetation makes it easy for sound to travel.  The dirt road into the campground can be a little confusing and once you arrive the first 3 campsites are setup as very large group sites with huge parking areas.  The campground is almost like a primitive camp you might just stumble upon in the woods.  The boat launch would work find for small boats but anyone with a larger, heavier trailer may want to stay away and launch their boat elsewhere.

Nearby activities include fishing, swimming, hiking and boating.  This is a good starting point for those looking to take on the Deschutes River Paddle Trail.  There are also many other nearby campgrounds and lakes in the area making this a top destination for water recreation.

Overall Sheep Bridge Campground is a good place to spend the night for those looking for larger campsites with a more primitive feel.  Many of the other campgrounds in the area are over developed and this one offers a more rustic feel.
