Harris Beach Campground Description

Harris Beach State Park & Campground is located just outside the coastal town of Brookings, Oregon and is known for having the largest island in Oregon.  The island, call Bird Island and also Goat Island, is a wildlife sanctuary and breeding ground for rare birds and other species.  The park is incredibly scenic with rocks that jut out of the water creating astounding landscapes only found on the Oregon Coast.  Beyond site seeing there is plenty to do with tide pools, nearby hiking, kite flying, exploring the city of Brookings, biking and just strolling on the beach.

The campground has over 150 sites, is RV friendly with some sites having full hookups and comes with full amenities for tent campers.  Some of these amenities include showers, laundry facilities, potable water, flushing toilets and nearby general stores.  The actual campsites vary in privacy with some offering full privacy and others giving little to none.  The campsites near the front of the campground have some of the best views you will ever find in any campground however what you gain in views you lose in privacy.  The majority of the sites at Harris Beach Campground are usually occupied by RVs but don’t let that deter you if you are a tent camper.  Overall this is a gorgeous state park and the campground is well maintained and well recommend.   The campground is open all year round with rates dropping during the off season.

  1. I would like to know how full the campground is at any given time. I don’t want to pull my trailer in and have no place to stay. I know reservations can be made, but I like to travel without a schedule. I have been to the park a number of times and really love it.

    1. Donald – I don’t think there is any way to know this. I guess you could call the campground and if you are lucky they will answer however I know campgrounds fill up later at night and they may not be open for phone calls then. Here are a few numbers I found for this campground: Info: 800.551.6949 Reservations: 1-800-452-5687 Park business line: 541-469-2021. Hope that helps!
