Jack Creek Campground Description

Jack Creek Campground offers a tranquil retreat nestled in the beautiful Deschutes National Forest, adjacent to the gently flowing Jack Creek. With 19 spacious campsites, this is perfect for tents, trailers, and RVs up to 50 feet, though the road in can be a little challenging and there are no hookups.

Located near the Metolius River, Jack Creek Campground is a part of a network of campsites that are scattered throughout the area. The campground itself offers basic amenities including vault toilets and a trash service, but campers need to bring their own water, giving this an almost dispersed camping feel.  In fact, this area is well known for its popularity with dispersed camping.  If you do find Jack Creek Campground to be at capacity just keep driving until you find your own little perfect campsite.

The area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. The Metolius River, known for its crystal-clear, spring-fed waters, is a premium spot for fly-fishing. Anglers fish for rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon that thrive in its cold streams. There is also plenty to do besides fishing though… the area is popular with ATV riders, mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders.

The natural landscape around Jack Creek is breathtaking. The river’s source is a spring at the head of jack creek which keeps the water temps frigid year-round.  The spring also regulates the creeks natural height so flooding never occurs.

The nearby Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform and the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery offer unique opportunities to observe local aquatic life. For those interested in longer excursions, the Metolius-Windigo Trail extends over 100 miles, accommodating hikers, bikers, and horse riders. Jack Creek Campground is an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful escape in the heart of nature, enriched with a wealth of recreational activities and natural beauty.

Quiet campground in a beautiful forest

May 3, 2024

This is a great little campground located in the pristine wilderness of the Camp Sherman area of Central Oregon. The campsites are spaced out fairly well and it is right next to Jack Creek. Come here in the off season or a weekday and you will likely have the place to yourself. There is not alot of privacy between the sites but that is just the nature of the forest here.
