Gorge Campground Description

The Gorge Campground on the Metolius River is located in the Deschutes National Forest just a short 30-minute drive from the town of Sisters, Oregon.  The campground is great for both tent campers and RVers/Trailers alike and offers a tranquil retreat nestled adjacent to the famous Metolius River.  The area offers plenty to do from hiking, fishing, mountain biking, backpacking, horseback riding and bird watching.

The Gorge Campground is home to 18 individual campsites of which nearly half back up to the river’s edge.  The sites that are not adjacent to the river are still gems as they are well spaced out, offer plenty of privacy and mostly back up to the pristine forests Central Oregon is known for.

There are vault toilets, picnic tables and fire rings at the Gorge Campground and it should be noted that there is no potable water.  Cell service can be spotty in this area but nearby Camp Sherman offers basic amenities including a general store, gas station and restaurants.

Overall, the Gorge Campground on the Metolius River is fantastic place to spend a weekend.

Pristine Campground on the Metolius River

July 10, 2024

This is one of my favorite campgrounds on the Metolius River. Each site is spaced out well and the proximity to the river’s edge is unbeatable. Plenty of room for larger RVs and trailers and it feels small and quant like a campground should be.
