Crane Prairie Campground Description

Crane Prairie Campground is located on the shores of Crane Prairie Reservoir about 55 minutes from Bend, Oregon.  The campground has 153 campsites and is adjacent to the Crane Prairie Resort.   There is potable drinking water on site, camp hosts, vaulted toilets and a boat ramp.

The Crane Prairie Campground is one of the largest campgrounds in Central Oregon and is laid out in a loop style format.  There a few walk in only sites that sit near the lake with the majority of the other sites set back far from the water’s edge.  With so many campsites it is hard to find many with much privacy however the sites are spaced out well enough.  Cell service is available here but it is spotty at best.  Due to the large size of the campground you can expect it to be fairly crowded and full during the busy summer months.

Activities near Crane Prairie Campground include boating, fishing, hiking, biking, swimming and exploring the Cascade Lakes Scenic Highway.  There are also many other campground near here as well as endless amounts of lake to explore.  The views from Crane Prairie Lake are some of the best you will find from any campground with stunning landscapes of the Cascades including Mt. Bachelor and the Thee Sisters.

The nearby resort at Crane Prairie Campground has amenities including a convenience store, boat rentals, shower and laundry, gas station, as well as an RV park with full hookups and cabins for rent.  The resort is adjacent to the campground and within walking distance.

Crane Prairie Campground is similar to what you might expect when visiting a more popular destination such as Yellowstone or Yosemite.  The campground is massive, there will be lots of other campers there and you will have access to pretty much all the amenities you could want.  This is a great campground for family outings however do not expect any solitude as you will not find it here.

  1. My husband and I spent a long weekend in one of the first-come, first-served sites along the shore—we were lucky enough to grab the very last one. It might not have been the best site, but it was very private and quiet. The bird-watching is incredible here. We spent the entire weekend watching Ospreys, Bald Eagles, and Golden Eagles fishing in the lake, while a flock of about 30 Great American Pelicans floated below catching whatever the birds of prey above would drop.
