Nice place once you get there, but the drive really isn’t worth it. I like the seclusion and all, but the road is just getting too rough and difficult even in a decent 4×4. 10 or 15 years ago this place would have got 5 stars out of me, but as it stands now…
Not primitive enough. You can expect a hillbilly hoedown with guns and alcohol on the wrong weekend. Better to avoid considering the noise, the drive and the fact that it is not a natural lake.
We recently went here to sleep for an evening. It was Sunday night. We have little camping experience, but this place was very positive. Only one other camper and a couple hikers were at the park at the time. Several outhouses on premise with toilet paper was an unexpected benefit. These were very clean.
The drive up was pretty straight forward with no real complications. We drove an unmodified Jeep 4 door.
Would def. go again.
I love this place. Perfict to get away for a extended weekend with some adventurous friends. Or just a significant other. Ive made the trip in a. Mid built jeep grand cherokee. And in a 99 chevy tracker. In 2. Wheel drive. (Not anyone can do that ) but well worth it. Infact for me thats a huge pluss. I will be back agan and agan
Just got back from a night there. I was the only person. Lake is about 1/3 full due to lack of rain and evaporation. Worth the drive if you like solitude, kayaking might be a bust because of the mud around the lake. I came in on road 3550. Rough most of the way and narrow exposed cliffs in spots. Very slow going. I don’t recommend it without high clearance, good tires and a narrow vehicle (I didn’t need 4WD). Recommend route, 4860, on the way out was a piece of cake by comparison.

Thanks Chris. Most of road 3550 isn’t technically challenging, but the bouncing is unrelenting until you get to the turn-off to the lake. I did it for the experience- and I recommend it. If my goal was only fishing/hiking I would take the long route.
